I recently wrote a wrapper class for checking GMail inbox's - if you're interested take a look here.
Oh and requires php5-imap installed to run.
"apt-get install php5-imap" for all those lucky enough to run debian~

I've also been building a system similar to http://qdb.us/, only a bit simpler - expect to see that arrive on the internets soon enough.

So, I got Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for PS3 recently...
